What is Astrology?
The astrological system that has existed for thousands of years. It is one of the oldest sciences, and it combines many different aspects from our experiences with the universe to create something like an impossibly large, infinitely complex clock.
The classical images of the zodiac signs date back many thousands of years. There are records of their use in ancient Egyptian times, and even some indications that the practise goes back even further.

How Does It Work?
How does such a complex system function? Previously, it was described as an impossibly complex clock. Instead of telling time using hands and numerals on a clock face, it is possible to use the movement of planets to make predictions about other people.
This may seem strange but it is not so unusual. When you consider a traditional clock, it does more than tell the time. The position of the hands also indicates whether or not it is light outside, the likelihood that people are travelling to or from work, and other such common activities. Clocks do not cause any of these events to occur, they simply make it possible to infer their existence based on the available information.
An astrological chart can act similarly. By reading the chart, it is possible to make reasonably accurate predictions that have been formulated by thousands of years of observed behaviour and correlations.
Is Astrology Real?
Whether or not astrology is an accurate science with any practical application is a matter of great debate. The key problem is that it does not behave like a computer or a mathematical equation. For something to be deemed ‘real,’ it needs to be a measurable quantifiable entity.
Astrological charts, star signs and the other related systems do not deal with simple, ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions and answers. They introduce an element of uncertainty and always provide the possibility of a ‘maybe’ depending on the context.
To use the example of the clock, the position of the hands can never say for certain what is going on outside when asking certain questions. Is the road busy during rush hour? The strongest answer will always be ‘almost definitely’ but it can never be ‘yes’.
No mechanism links the readings of the astrological charts with their predicted results. Instead, there are patterns, correlations, relationships and interpretations.
The Meanings of Star Signs
The zodiac is only one small piece of the greater astrological system but it is usually the most popular. This is where we get our horoscopes and a lot of people find fun in learning about their corresponding sign and what it says about them and then doing the same for their friends.

Aries, The Ram (March 21 – April 19):

Aries are infused with exciting and passionate energy. They have a love of adventure and pushing themselves. This is coupled with drive and ambition but tempered by a strong idea of justice. Competing comes naturally to Aries, which is why they love being leaders

Taurus, The Bull (April 20 – May 20):

Taurus are dependable, reliable and dedicated people. They value security and stability first and foremost. Where Aries brings fire and passion, Taurus supplies solid foundations and hard work. A love of routine and habit makes Taurus stubborn and not prone to change

Gemini, The Twins (May 21 – June 20):

Geminis are social animals who love surrounding themselves with others. The very best thing for a Gemini is to share their ideas and communicate with others. They just love to chat and value communication and freedom of expression very highly. Some may find their constant sharing and creation of ideas a little overwhelming or even manic at times.

Cancer, The Crab (June 21 – July 22):

Cancers live to be needed by others. All they want is to feel loved and appreciated. This helps them develop a strong sense of identity and security. Once they have a home, they have a great talent for developing their environments for themselves and others.

Leo, The Lion (July 23 – August 22):

Leos bring a strong air of royalty. They bring warmth and life into the lives of those they care about. Leos exhibit a natural charisma which attracts a large number of adoring friends. This, in turn, compliments a Leo’s desire for attention and flattery.

Virgo, The Virgin (August 23 – September 22):

Virgos are organised and analytical. This is coupled with a natural charm that makes them a joy to be around. They are also naturally curious which gives them a gift for conducting research, which is further boosted by a strong memory and sense of intuition. As such, they are excellent team players although others can find them to be a little too critical.

Libra, The Scales (September 23 – October 22):

Libras depend on maintaining a sense of stability, justice and balance to thrive. They are charming people who love to surround themselves with beautiful, harmonious things. Their sense of justice makes them natural defenders of the weak or downtrodden. Sometimes, Libras are shy people who have a hard time letting their guard down. When they do, they love to discuss and debate important issues.

Scorpio, The Scorpion (October 23 – November 21):

Scorpios are often misunderstood as people. A cool demeanour hides bold, intense personalities making them capable of overcoming great challenges. This is helped by an ability to maintain a strong focus, allowing a Scorpio to confidently complete huge projects. Unfortunately, the cool exterior and intense focus can make them seem uninterested or secretive.

Sagittarius, The Centaur (November 22 – December 21):

Sagittarius are often known as philosophers. They love to wander the world and explore but are still capable of intense focus. If they cannot utilise this ability to focus, a Sagittarius runs the risk of spreading themselves too thin. One of their weaknesses is a lack of patience and a tendency towards haste. This makes them unwilling to make strong commitments although they are still strongly loyal friends.

Capricorn, The Goat (December 22 – January 19):

Capricorns are keenly intelligent and ambitious people, especially when it comes to practical matters. They have a love of stability and order which makes them excellent planners and organisers. A Capricorn will set lofty goals and then systematically achieve them with steady precision. This is helped by their strong intuition, even if they can be reluctant to share what they know. They are capable of taking on the burdens of others thanks to a strong sense of responsibility. However, this means they often struggle to share their own burdens and can struggle with depression and other issues.

Aquarius, The Water Bearer (January 20 – February 18):

Aquarius’ quirky personalities mean they can come across as a goofball and hey find unique and unorthodox ways of achieving their goals. These methods are no less effective despite how unusual they seem to others. Aquarius are strongly humanitarian and will work hard for the greater good of the human race. This, their peculiar natures and an easygoing manner combine to make them solid and loyal friends. Unfortunately, an Aquarius can find it difficult to become motivated and it is easy for them to drift into laziness.

Pisces, The Fish (February 19 – March 20): Pisces are often dreamers and mystics. However, they have a tendency to keep this hidden as while their minds are filled with wonder and fantasy, they tend to be introverted and keep to themselves. Honesty and compassion are common traits but this can make them gullible and susceptible to the dishonesty of others. Despite their quiet and retiring exterior, Pisces are intensely determined allowing them to overcome almost any obstacle.
These stereotypical traits are guidelines and not set in stone. However, as spiritual beings you understand that we create your own lives by our thoughts and emotions.
By using our character strengths as suggested in Astrology we can use this knowledge to our benefit and grow our awareness further while here on earth.
